The Cancer Council ACT is a non-government, not-for-profit community organisation with a strong commitment to promote a healthier local community by reducing the incidence and impact of cancer in the ACT region. They do this through community engagement, promotion of prevention and general support information and cancer research.
About the role
The Opportunity:
This the opportunity to make your mark on a critical role within Cancer Council ACT. In this role you won’t not be tied to working at your desk; in fact, you’ll most likely be out and working with the community two or three days a week. You’ll also be an integral part of Cancer Council’s information and support services here in the ACT.
This could be an ideal opportunity for a registered nurse to take a step away from rostered hours over nights and weekends to a more regular Monday to Friday.
The Role:
This position will see you form close bonds with a range of stakeholders and institutions including hospitals, community groups and research facilities here in Canberra. You’ll develop networks and advocate on behalf of the Cancer Council’s mission to create a cancer free future by running information sessions, workshops and masterclasses.
In additional you’ll act as an internal resource on the Cancer Council’s hotline to provide information and support services for the Canberra community. You’ll be able to respond to enquiries about all aspects of cancer, promoting best practice and evidenced based information.

Your experience of working with clients of diverse, multi-cultural backgrounds and clients with sensitive needs will contribute to your success in the role.
Your ability to manage priorities and interact with a wide variety of stakeholders enables you to meet the demands of this position.
You must also:
- Be a registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
- Have demonstrated ability to practise within an evidence based framework, and participate in continuous quality improvement activities
- Have advanced verbal and listening skills, with the ability to build professional rapport and trust with clients while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Knowledge and/or experience in the areas of oncology, haematology, palliative care or cancer control are highly desirable.
The Salary/Rate:
A competitive salary will be offered to the successful candidate dependant on experience.
Although there is no onsite parking available there is plenty of free parking in the surrounding area.
