About the organisation
HeartKids is the only dedicated organisation that supports the lifetime journey of the 65,000+ Australians affected by congenital heart disease and heart disease acquired in early childhood such as rheumatic heart disease (collectively, CHD), a leading cause of infant death in Australia and a complex chronic disease requiring lifelong treatment. Their aim is to help sufferers and their families to lead the most fulfilling life possible and have HeartKids be recognised as the leader in the fight against CHD in Australia.
HeartKids is the voice for all people impacted by congenital heart disease – the largest cause of infant death in Australia. Congenital heart disease incorporates a group of abnormalities of the heart and is a general name for any type of malformation of the heart, heart valves or major blood vessels which are present at birth. Defects can range from simple to complex and can occur alone or in groups, depending on how the heart has developed.
HeartKids operates in all states and territories across Australia, with its work focused on four pillars of Advocacy, Information, Research and Support.
About the role
With recognition and significant funding from the Australian Government for HeartKids’ leading role in initiating and delivering the very first National Strategic Action Plan for CHD, and with a rebranding process well underway, HeartKids is now looking for a Chief Executive Officer that can lead the organisation into its next stage of growth.
As CEO of HeartKids, you will be responsible for leading and managing this valuable, influential, and respected profit-for-purpose organisation including the execution of the National Strategic Action Plan. You will be responsible for effective stakeholder engagement with the active HeartKids community, along with growing the support base.
A key function of this role is to ensure a dynamic, broad-ranging and effective marketing and communications strategy significantly raises awareness of and builds the HeartKids brand. You will serve as a spokesperson for HeartKids in conjunction with the Chairperson, and ensure that only the highest standard of operations and finances are maintained.
You will thrive in leading, coaching and developing a team of dedicated employees and volunteers, as well as building a cohesive, inclusive and high-performing culture across the national and state teams.
Success in this role involves:
- Alignment to HeartKids’ vision, purpose, values, and code of conduct
- Inspiring and leading a committed team who have undergone change
- Demonstration of excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- A goal-oriented approach with a strong focus on delivery and ability to assess, prioritise and manage a variety of projects
- Capability in growing income streams, donor, and supporter databases, leading and influencing health or government policy, and working with a high-performing national team
- Guiding an experienced fundraising team to leverage on existing relationships and opportunities, and ability to represent the organisation at the most senior philanthropic levels
- Drive, dynamism, and a passion to innovate
- Having tertiary qualifications in commerce, business, marketing, communications, and/or philanthropy
- Relevant industry and leadership experience, preferably for more than ten years
Current driver’s license, Working with Children’s Check, and criminal history clearances
