About the organisation
We are Australia’s only national charity dedicated solely to protecting our precious ocean wildlife. We are staffed by a committed group of scientists, educators and passionate advocates who have defended Australia’s oceans for over 50 years. AMCS works on the big issues that risk our ocean wildlife. Together, we have protected critical ocean ecosystems with marine reserves around the nation, including Ningaloo and the Great Barrier Reef. We have led the movement to ban whaling, stopped super-trawlers, and protected threatened and endangered species like the Australian sea lion. Together, our community of ocean lovers defends our oceans every day.
About the role
AMCS is seeking a number of inspired Board members, passionate about marine conservation and ready to play a critical role in the fight to protect our oceans. AMCS has undergone an exciting period of unprecedented growth and remarkable impact, but the world’s oceans are under threat like never before.
As a member of a highly committed National Management Committee – the ‘Board’, you will have an opportunity to influence strategy and provide sound governance to this important organisation. AMCS is seeking applicants with a broad range of skills and a passion for our oceans.
The board meets six times per year, as well as holding a national face-to-face strategy weekend, with members also encouraged to join a sub-committee and attend relevant events. Opportunities also exist to provide support and mentoring to a highly engaged and high performing executive team. This role is voluntary, however approved expenses are reimbursed.
Candidates with NFP or commercial board experience are encouraged to apply, as are candidates with specific experience in fundraising, advocacy, finance, law or technology.
