About the role

About Rosies
Rosies is a Queensland based not-for-profit organisation sharing unconditional friendship to those in need since 1987.  A mainstay of local community cohesion and integration, Rosies has established itself as a household name with an extensive supporter network and school outreach program.  Rosies has approximately 1,400 volunteers, with 18 vehicles on the road delivering over 200 outreaches a month to 63,000 patrons per year.  The student engagement program is active in more than 70 schools with 1,500 students and teachers regularly volunteering their support.

Rosies was founded by and continues to be supported by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, a missionary order of the Catholic Church.  Inspired by the Gospel, Rosies reaches out to those most in need, the abandoned and those who are marginalised or socially isolated within our communities.

The Opportunity
Rosies is seeking to appoint two non-executive Directors on a voluntary basis due to the retirement of existing Board members. As a Director of Rosies, you will play a critical role alongside the other five non-executive Directors and the CEO, in the strategic leadership and oversight of the company.

The Board meets approximately seven times annually via both videoconference and face-to-face, in addition to planning and professional development days. Further to Board meetings, it is expected that the new Directors will make a contribution to one or more sub-committees of the Board.

Direct experience in the not-for-profit sector is not essential, although a passion for the mission of Rosies is expected.  This is a unique opportunity to play a key leadership role with an organisation that is passionate about offering acceptance and friendship to those who are experiencing homelessness, social isolation and loneliness.

About You
Rosies is looking for strong value-based, community-minded and strategic leaders whose skills will complement those of existing Board members and the CEO.

Professionally, you are likely to be tertiary qualified and conversant with the responsibilities of a director role.  Possessing a track record of significant managerial experience, coupled with governance understanding, you will demonstrate an enthusiasm and desire to contribute broadly towards the success of Rosies through a well-developed network of connections, skills and creative ideas.

Skills which will be held in high regard include:

  • Strategic Expertise – the ability to review the strategy through constructive questioning and contribute to the effective strategic decision making of the Board
  • Risk Management – experience in identifying and managing areas of major risk and demonstrated ability to identify strategies to address risk areas
  • Corporate Governance – demonstrated ability to balance the interests of Rosies many and varied stakeholders
  • Innovative Thinking – the ability to identify and be open to new ideas or approaches
  • Values – alignment to the Christian values and Oblate spirit of daring, integral to the Rosies community

Completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) course will be an advantage.  New Board members will be required to hold, or be able to hold, a Blue Card and pass a criminal history check.
