About the organisation
Save Our Sons Duchenne Foundation was founded in 2008 and is now Australia’s peak body for Duchenne & Becker muscular dystrophy, fighting to find a cure.
Duchenne & Becker muscular dystrophy is a muscle wasting condition, it is the most common muscular genetic disorder amongst children. One in every 3500 newborn boys have Duchenne. Very rarely it also affects girls (approximately 1 in 50 million girls). The condition is fatal, with most children living to their mid-late twenties.
Save Our Sons funds scientific research and clinical trials for our ultimate goal of finding a cure. Until then, Save Our Sons funds Duchenne specific nurses in major children’s hospitals across Australia, and run various programs to enhance the lives of those living with Duchenne.
About the role
Save Our Sons Duchenne Foundation are the peak organisation representing people with Duchenne and Becker Muscular Dystrophy in Australia, their families and carers.
We are seeking a committed and passionate Events and Fundraising Officer to join our team and contribute to a worthy cause, helping to enhance the quality of life for people with Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy and to ultimately find a cure for the condition.
The position will lead the development and the execution of fundraising campaigns and nurture communication for donors, sponsors, and supporters to increase engagement and value over their lifetime. The role will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the organisations events and conferences.
Responsibilities of the Fundraising and Events Officer role will include:
- designing a program of activities including donor engagement, appeals, fundraising drives linked to campaigns, promotional events and programs to increase major and regular donors and bequests
- Participate in policy and campaign planning with communications and fundraising aspects in mind
- coordinate all fundraising activities from third party fundraising platforms and other campaigns
- Work closely with the Founder and external stakeholders to coordinate the successful planning and operation of all Save Our Sons major fundraising events
- Collaborate with the team to produce content for social and mainstream media showcasing Save Our Sons campaigns, events, fundraising and trending topics
- Work collaboratively and proactively with the General Manager and team to support the broader activities of Save Our Sons
Key attributes required are:
- A minimum of five years’ directly relevant experience in Events and Fundraising in the Not-for-Profit Sector
- Experience with social media as a communication tool
- Sound knowledge of fundraising standards, principles, policies and procedures
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple and competing work tasks and deliver to agreed deadlines
- experience in managing budgets, expenditure and income
- current Australian Driver’s license
Tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Fundraising, event planning or a related discipline highly regarded but not essential.
