Coeliac Australia is currently looking for a multi-skilled, hands-on Editor to join our team on a part-time or contractual basis. This position would ideally be based in Sydney, however we invite candidates from other locations to apply due to the potential for work-from-home arrangements. 

Coeliac Australia is a national registered charity offering membership, support and information services to Australians with coeliac disease and associated conditions requiring a gluten free diet. Our health and lifestyle member magazine, The Australian Coeliac, has a proud heritage spanning multiple decades with a loyal and engaged readership. The magazine is produced and delivered to members on a quarterly basis.

Reporting to the Manager – Marketing & Communications, the Editor will spearhead the magazine, being responsible for all aspects of the magazine’s production, including content planning, liaising with internal and external content contributors, writing features and general content, content collation, proofing & editing, coordinating member content submissions, overseeing the magazine’s graphic design, liaising with the advertising sales team, through to ensuring the magazine is printed and delivered on time and within budget.

This role represents a great opportunity to take ownership of all facets of a publication and make your mark on the future creative direction of our magazine!

Skills & Experience:

  • You should be a master wordsmith with excellent editorial skills
  • 5 years+ editorial/journalistic experience
  • A tertiary degree in Communications/ Journalism or similar (or proven track record of extensive practical experience)
  • A proven track record of creating compelling content
  • An excellent eye for detail, accuracy, tonality, style and consistency
  • Ability to create and upload digital magazine versions to digital platforms (currently Joomag)
  • A background in health, wellbeing or medical writing would be advantageous, as would an understanding of coeliac disease and the gluten free diet.
  • Proficiency in publishing tools such as InDesign, InCopy and Content Station.
  • Graphic Design skills would be advantageous
  • Proficient with key Microsoft packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Self-manager of your time across multiple tasks to meet deadlines and within budget.
  • High interpersonal skills and ability to work both autonomously and as part of a wider team, engaging numerous stakeholders each quarter in the magazine’s development.
  • Ability to conceptualise the future strategy for the magazine, ensuring member needs are at the forefront of the publication’s purpose.
