Services include: soup vans, education programs, kids'​ camps and day outs and home visitation to provide food and clothing vouchers and assistance with paying for utility bills and medical bills. Our network of over 110 Vinnies Shops across the state also play a key part in funding our many programs and services and providing material assistance to those we help. By uniting thousands of volunteers to help offer a hand up to people in need, we can break the cycle of homelessness

Dandenong Education Program

At present, St Vincent de Paul Society run six Education Programs across Victoria. The Dandenong Program operates as a tutoring program with 50 volunteers supporting up to 100 students across primary and secondary schools in the area. The program supports children from CALD families to develop social, emotional and academic competence and confidence. This Education Program provides important guidance and educational support while fostering a strong sense of community through learning.

The Role

The Education Program Coordinator is responsible for the planning, operation, management, delivery and reporting of the Dandenong Education Program. They will telephone interview, induct and support volunteers; support volunteers to enrol students; develop resources; and support the sustainability and growth of the program. They will report weekly to the Education Program Team Leader and participate in scheduled professional development sessions across the Victorian school holidays.

As Education Program Coordinator you will be responsible for ensuring the program operates with excellence each Saturday during Victorian school terms. You will enjoy working within a framework of continuous quality improvement and reflective practice.  You will have a growth mindset and always be open to new and innovative practices based on sound educational principles. You will provide evidence of your experience working with young people in an educational context. You will be highly organised, proficient in excel and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously. You will bring a proactive supportive approach and be a leader who thrives on creating an engaging learning experience for students and volunteers alike. Students studying primary teaching, retired primary school professionals or primary trained teachers returning to the education sector after extended leave are encouraged to apply. Please note, this role requires highly developed organisation, project and people management skills.

More specifically you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline education (preferred), youth work, social work community engagement (or significant & current study towards such a qualification)
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and stakeholder relationship skills
  • Experience working with primary school age children within an education context
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team of volunteers
  • Experience leading large community groups or school groups
  • Experience in public speaking and facilitating training for adults
  • Strong project management, record keeping, excel spreadsheet and training/teaching skills
  • Ability to work independently, with strong organisational and time management skills, including setting priorities and working within deadlines
  • Positive outlook and a desire to work collaboratively with a growing team

Key accountabilities include:

  • Managing the program by leading and engaging our team of volunteers to provide an exceptional education service.
  • Implementing and adhering to student management strategies, child safety standards and operational procedures that encourage student engagement within a safe and protective environment.
  • Identify needs of the program or community and develop, implement and review responses and systems that promote best practice service facilitation
  • Developing weekly/term plans to support the education program
  • Training, supporting and recruiting volunteers to work with your in the education program
  • Maintaining accurate records with a high level of confidentiality
  • Report weekly statistics
