About the organisation
The Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture Inc. (VFST) provides a range of services to people in Victoria who have been subject to torture or other traumatic events prior to their arrival in Australia. This group includes refugees and asylum seekers. It is non-denominational, politically neutral and non-aligned.
About the role
About the program
The Education and Early Years Program area comprises the School Support Program and the Early Years Program. The Schools Support Program works in partnership with schools throughout Victoria in supporting students and families of refugee background including the delivery of the Refugee Education Support Program and broader school development work. Our innovative program resource, School’s In for Refugees supports schools and school-based professionals in their efforts to provide a high quality education to children and young people of refugee backgrounds. About the role
We have an ongoing full time Senior School Support Officer position with a focus on providing specialist practice support to the team of School Support Officers working with participating RESP schools, whilst working collaboratively with program partners to implement capacity building and change processes. The position also performs direct school-based work.
About you
You will have a sound understanding of the challenges faced by refugee background children and their families in primary and secondary education settings. You have an understanding of the role of capacity building and be able to lead and motivate others to implement change. This role requires an excellent understanding of the Victorian education system and experience in facilitating professional learning and project coordination with school communities.
Salary and benefits
Remuneration is based on our Enterprise Agreement 2014 up to $94,591 gross per annum. Benefits include salary packaging, leave loading, and a range of flexible working options, a highly supportive team environment, excellent training, support and development opportunities.
