Role & Responsibilities
This role requires a confident, professional, mature, entrepreneurial and authentic go-getter who is highly target driven and loves connecting with people and building relationships. The person in this role must have the ability to work autonomously and have proven experience in a ‘relationship’ fundraising environment with the ability to engage with donors and prospects at all levels. The individual will be passionate about mobilising individuals and organisations to end world hunger and will be recognised as a driving force to build revenue, reputation and relationships with our donors in Victoria.
The Victorian Fundraising Manager has primary responsibility to meet revenue and non-revenue related targets in the Victorian market by managing all Victorian donors from acquisition and throughout their donor journey and empowering the VIC Development Board in their fundraising efforts. The role works closely with the Head of Philanthropy and will focus their fundraising efforts in Victoria via relationship management including donors, grants from public trusts and foundations and community fundraising. The role will also in collaboration with the Head of Partnerships to identify Corporate partnerships opportunities in Victoria.
The role will be involved in developing, regularly reviewing and executing the Victorian fundraising strategy in line with the organisation’s 5-Year Strategy, diversifying revenue sources and ensuring stewardship and retention of donors by providing exceptional service, experience and support. The role will ensure best practice fundraising at all times, that supports the reputation and brand of THPA.
The core responsibilities of the role can be broken down into the following core areas:
VIC Development Board:
*Our VIC Development Board is made up of 6-8 people who are all dedicated to ending hunger globally. They generously volunteer their time to The Hunger Project by advocating and fundraising for us in Victoria.
- Work in conjunction with the VIC Development Board to fulfill the Victoria plan and strategies
- Attend VIC Development Board meetings once a month
- Support the VIC Development Board with fundraising and donor events
- Work in partnership with the VIC Development Board to leverage fundraising opportunities that arise
- Work with the VIC Development Board and the Head of Partnerships to leverage partnership opportunities that are arise
- Work to liaise between the VIC Development Board and relevant THP staff
- Research, explore and identify leads to build a pipeline of opportunities for new donors
- Use the CRM to manage a pipeline of new prospects with the aim of converting them into donors and track all new leads which come in through a variety of channels: website sign-ups, workshops, Development Board referrals, campaigns and other special events
- Reach out to lapsed Donors and re-establish contact with the aim to re-engage them to come back as donors, or understand and learn from the reason they have chosen to no-longer invest
- Prepare proposals in partnership with the Head of Philanthropy and other team members for potential donors based on the plans developed with program country partners
- Stewardship and retention of all Victorian donors including Unrestricted donors and Major Restricted donors, nurturing relationships to provide an exceptional experience that engages and retains them and increases their investment year on year, including through regular communications and where relevant, regular face to face meetings and annual reporting
- Where donors are increasing their commitment to direct to specific projects, work with the Head of Philanthropy to develop proposals for investment opportunities
- Use the CRM to manage all donors, updating relevant communication and personal donor journeys
- Fundraising administration and THPA communication:
- Ensure there is clear communication with the Head of Philanthropy so they are across all engagement
- Work with the Head of Philanthropy to coordinate relevant meetings with donors or potential leads, when they are in Victoria
- Work with the THPA Team to ensure that all Victorian donors receive invoices and receipts in a timely manner
Public Trusts/Foundations in Victoria:
- Work closely with the Head of Philanthropy to research, explore and identify opportunities to apply for grants from public trusts and foundations in Victoria and develop relationships with the key decision makers
- For successful grants in Victoria, work with the Program Countries, Global Office and other Members of the Fundraising Team to manage the grants and meet any requirements including in relation to reporting
Background & Experience
- A Bachelor’s Degree in fundraising, communications, business or similar (or equivalent experience)
- A minimum of 4 years proven fundraising experience including implementing effective fundraising programs, products and initiatives
- Proven fundraising skills/business development and success in securing new business from donors/clients with the ability to achieve and exceed financial targets
- Ability and enthusiasm for networking with highly developed relationship management skills
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills for a range of audiences
- Excellent presentation, proposal and pitch skills
- Proven experience with executing fundraising/business strategy
- Proven experience in revenue reporting
- Proven ability to make decisions, solve problems, prioritise tasks, forward plan, meet deadlines and deliver results effectively and creatively
- Experience managing and working with customer and/or fundraising databases
- Experience dealing with multiple stakeholder groups in different countries desirable
- Ability to network, genuinely build rapport and create authentic connections and relationships
- Significant experience, confidence and ability to seek out and ask for financial support from prospective donors and corporates.
