About the role
An exciting opportunity has opened at Pro Bono News for an enthusiastic, driven journalist to join our team three days a week.
Pro Bono Australia is the country’s leading news service for the social sector, providing news and analysis from all parts of the social economy including charities and not for profits, volunteering, philanthropy, social enterprise, CSR and shared value, and impact investing.
Our publication is focused firmly in the B2B space and our audiences are c-suite executives and senior decision makers.
Our news services boast 66,000 subscribers with 1.6 million people using our site annually. As such, we are the major hub for this sector.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about the social sector and delivering news that makes a difference to the world.
This role is suited to a journalist with a solid news sense, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a strong desire to learn and grow on the job. A proven track record, and an excellent body of work to show for it is required.
A strong interest in the social sector, including the role of the private sector in this community, is essential.
As a proud B-Corp, Pro Bono News is increasingly covering stories on profit-for-purpose organisations. We are particularly keen to find someone who can bring their knowledge and understanding of this exciting area to help us grow our coverage.
About the role:
- The role requires a strong sense of news, work ethic and impeccable organisational skills with a proven ability to work under pressure.
- Reporting to the editor, you will be expected to produce high-quality news stories for online with high relevance and appeal to Australia’s social sector.
- As part of a tight-knit team of four, this role also includes sub-editing copy to fit the in-house style guide, uploading content to the website and social media, and populating eDMs to send to our subscribers.
- We provide ongoing training.
Successful candidates will meet the following criteria:
- relevant tertiary qualifications and three year’s experience in a similar role;
- the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines;
- high attention to detail;
- the ability to work independently and as part of a small team;
- experience in interviewing, both in person and over the phone;
- relationship management and the ability to develop contacts; and
- a working knowledge of the social sector with a particular understanding of profit-for-purpose, corporate social responsibility and impact investing.
