SHINE for Kids is the only national charity provider of infancy, youth, and family programs for families impacted by incarceration across NSW, VIC, QLD, ACT, and now Acacia Prison base in WA!
To lead the WA Child & Family programs, you will be passionate and qualified to drive life-changing experiences that build positive relationships and strengthen family bonds.
The impact you will have This pivotal role will report to the National Operations Manager and the WA Program Manager who will support you as you rollout exciting programs such as:
- Keeping Us Together– helping Dads in custody to improve their communication with their child through mindfulness and reflection
- Storytime– building parental bonds and literacy by recording bedtime stories for their child
- InVisits – supporting positive family interaction through arts, crafts, and visiting area activities
Your background could be one of education, community services, child protection, or family services. You will be passionate about continuously developing programs designed to break the fragmenting cycle of parent and child separation.
A typical day will involve
- Promoting the safety and emotional wellbeing of young people
- Working with schools and referral agencies to identify families in need
- Organising programs, transport, visits, activities, admin, events
- Run in-visit events: Christmas parties, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and cultural events and activities: e.g. NAIDOC Day or Chinese New Year
- Running the above program sessions for parents in custody
- Planning safe, fun, age-appropriate, and culturally sensitive programs
- Assessing risk, making assessments, and documenting case notes
- Supervising rollouts and coordinating volunteers and other staff
- Regular progress reviews with Serco staff, families, parents in custody
What you need to succeed
- Social & Community work, education, and/or criminology qualifications
- Ample practical experience working and collaborating in a related field
- Professional, warm, and inclusive written/verbal communication skills
- Understanding the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
- Relating well to culturally or linguistically diverse people
- Training and inspiring a passionate team of volunteers
- Relationships: children, parents, carers, corrective services staff
- Recruitment and training of Mentors for the Ride By Your Side Program
- Clear Working With Children and Criminal Record Checks
- First Aid Certification and the ability to manage unforeseen events
- A current driver’s licence and own car
What you will receive
- 5 days per week – Mon, Tue, Fri (9am-4pm), Sat & Sun (9am-2pm)
- $31.00 with penalty rates on weekends and generous salary packaging
- 12-month fixed term contract with possibility of extension
