About the role
The newly created role of Therapeutic Behaviour Specialist will be responsible for supporting the implementation and coordination of care for existing and future participants in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in our various regional residential care settings.
You will be primarily responsible for providing clinical advice and support to staff, aiming to develop independence and pro-active social behaviour for children and young people living with disability.
As an experienced Practitioner, you will be leading all clinical functions of the Child, Youth Disability Therapeutic Program, including clinical support. Importantly, this position will be the link between the teams responsible for the design and delivery of services, and those with the overall responsibility for their delivery.
You will provide leadership, mentoring and coaching as well as strategically developing our service delivery in line with continuous improvement principles, best practice in disability housing and support, and a commitment to safety and quality.

You will have influence in this role across our organisation and will enjoy working with a diverse variety of stakeholders and the broader business to contribute to decision making and problem solving.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Undertake or arrange assessment of children and young people living with a disability and/or experienced trauma
- Design, implement, evaluate and review evidence-based behaviour support interventions for children and young people
- Provide guidance and expertise in the formulation of therapeutic care plans
- Provide clinical advice, training, peer supervision, mentoring and debriefing to staff as required.
- Prepare positive behaviour support and individual crisis management plans in collaboration with the Care Team.
- Communicate with relevant stakeholders to monitor wellbeing, progress, and outcomes of Children and Young People

Skills and experience
- Postgraduate, tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Mental Health Nursing
- Current registration with the professional body relevant to qualification
- Significant experience in a therapeutic care setting or working in a clinical environment with Children and Young People in OOHC
- Knowledge of disability service networks, including the NDIS and NDIS planning processes.
- Significant experience using evidence-based assessment tools with young people with trauma informed behaviour
- Demonstrated understanding and application of child development and complex trauma and its effects on children and young people in out of home care
