About the organisation

Organisation Name : Optometry Australia

We lead, engage, unite and promote optometry, optometrists and community eye health

All Australians deserve the best in primary eye health and vision care. Our mission is to lead, engage, unite and promote optometry and optometrists to ensure the sustainability and continuous evolution of this important sector for improved community eye health. Around 12 million Australians have reported long-term eye conditions yet 90% of all vision impairment is preventable or treatable. We encourage all Australians to see their optometrist for regular eye examinations.

About the role

Whilst individual responsibilities vary between the roles, both Officers will deliver measurable engagement tactics that promote the tools and resources Optometry Australia provides to members to enable them to succeed. This will include creating simple yet compelling messages targeted at either the full membership, or member segments, and delivered via a range of channels including electronic newsletters, social media, videos and stories. You will also suggest and implement two-way engagement tactics that enables us to open up more dialogue with members.

Scope within one of the roles will extend to delivering tactics to engage with consumers as part of our successful Good vision for life eye health awareness campaign. To assume this role, you will need to demonstrate experience in consumer promotions and storytelling.

To be considered for either role, you will have at least three years’ experience working within a public relations, communications or marketing team, where you have honed your skills at delivering compelling content and digital and broadcast storytelling as well as media liaison. You will also have experience in WordPress, or similar CMS, and ideally some knowledge of SEO.

Your command of English and your written skills will be excellent, as will your ability to turn complex clinical jargon into easy-to-understand language. Juggling multiple projects and demonstrated commitment to meeting deadlines will be part of your DNA.

Ideally, you will have experience within a professional association or working with multiple, diverse stakeholders. Experience within the health sector would be well regarded, however all relevantly qualified candidates will be considered.

We offer a fast-paced, innovative and flexible working environment, with a good degree of autonomy. And while Optometry Australia is based in South Melbourne you do not have to be based in Melbourne, or Victoria, to apply for these positions.

Optometry Australia reserves the right to nominate which Officer role successful candidates may be best suited to.
