About the Role
PCA has an exciting opportunity for a part-time Policy & Grant Writer to join their passionate and dedicated team.
Reporting to the National Policy Manager, Aged Care & Diverse Needs, you will be responsible for helping to build PCA’s capacity and the capacity of its Member Organisations around Australia to improve availability and access to palliative care for people living with life-limiting illness when they need it and where they need it. This will involve extending PCA’s reach in policy, advocacy, research and support at the national level and across the jurisdictions through our Member Organisations. You will assist in building PCA’s funding base to include philanthropic funds and other funding opportunities, which will be used to extend the support and advocacy needed by people living with life-limiting illness together with their family and loved ones. This will also allow PCA to build its resourcing capacity in an ongoing sustainable way.
Your key responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:
- Identifying, researching and managing grant opportunities for PCA
- Writing grant submissions on behalf of PCA, and
- Working with the PCA Policy team to research, develop and write policy and advocacy documentation.
To be considered for this position, you will have demonstrated sound experience in research, policy and writing effective grant applications.
You’ll possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and will be able to forge strong and lasting relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. Your eye for detail and excellent organisational skills will ensure you provide high-quality service delivery and support in a complex environment. Additional you will have strong computer literacy skills and demonstrated competence in computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite and databases.
Ideally, you will hold tertiary qualifications in a related discipline (policy, research, social sciences, business or related field) and have a broad understanding of the health sector and the place of the palliative care community, although this is not essential for the role.

About the organisation
Palliative Care Australia (PCA) is the national peak body for palliative care. PCA represents all those who work towards high quality palliative care for all Australians. Working closely with consumers, our Member Organisations and the palliative care workforce, we aim to improve access to, and promote the need for, palliative care. We believe quality palliative care occurs when strong networks exist between specialist palliative care providers, primary generalist, primary specialist and support care providers and the community.
