We are looking for a skilled communicator who can produce high quality content and coordinate impact stories for the Church Agency Network Disaster Operations (CAN DO) consortium.

Caritas Australia is the lead agency for CAN DO, a consortium of eight church agencies – Caritas Australia, Act for Peace, Adventist Relief and Development Agency, Anglican Board of Missions, Anglican Overseas Aid, Australian Lutheran World Service, Transform Aid International and Uniting World. The CAN DO Coordination Unit is funded by consortium members, managed and hosted by Caritas Australia, and fulfils a central coordination function for the consortium.

Let’s talk about you

You will thrive as the Communications Coordinator if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in corporate affairs across stakeholder and media engagement, social media, reputation and issues management.
  • Proven track record in research, writing and editing for a variety of stakeholders and audience types to publication level.
  • Demonstrated experience in building trustful and positive working relationships with collaborative teams, including integrative cross-team environments.
  • Experience in concurrently managing projects, and business as usual activities.
  • Ability to deal with the media and travel internationally at infrequent times.
  • Experience in the international humanitarian and aid sector would be an advantage.

Let’s talk about your next role

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Driving and coordinating the collection of impact stories from members, supporting with editing and submitting them to DFAT and Australian Humanitarian Partnership (AHP).
  • Developing communications guidelines on content sharing.
  • Developing the CAN DO Annual Report by coordinating and working with members
  • Mobilising the working group by leading communications representatives from each agency and strengthening the roles and responsibilities of the working group to facilitate input on key communications tasks.
  • Developing CAN DO brochures and information pieces about what CAN DO is working on by liaising with member organisations for updates.
  • Collaborating with Design Monitoring Evaluation & Learning coordinators to create at least 2 well-researched, in depth, long form content pieces (written, photographic/video) a year.
  • Monitoring current communications trends and key dates to inform communications with members and donors e.g. International Day of Disaster Resilience.
  • Developing and maintaining content for the CAN DO section of the CAN website.
  • Making a difference in the lives of vulnerable people
