Cancer Council Victoria (CCV) was established in 1936 and has since developed an international reputation for their innovative work in cancer research, prevention and support. As an independent, not-for-profit organisation, CCV plays a leading role in reducing the impact of all cancers on all people.

Reporting to Head of Division – Fundraising and Communications, you will lead the Partnerships and Philanthropy Unit responsible for the effective relationship management approaches with high-value supporters to deliver significant and sustainable income to support CCV’s important work. You will proactively steward relationships with a portfolio of funders to maximise their long-term commitment, plus lead, mentor and develop a team of ten fundraising specialists across Philanthropy (Major Gifts & Trusts & Foundations), Supporter Engagement, Gifts in Wills, Prospect Research and Corporate Partnerships.

This critical leadership position will drive income growth, strategic direction and innovation across CCV’s key philanthropic income streams. You will provide visionary leadership and operational oversight and ensure robust strategies across the entire donor journey including prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgement and stewardship to maximise giving, maintain high retention levels and leverage opportunities. Engaging widely across CCV will be important to collaborate, share knowledge and build understanding of complex projects, funding requirements the Research, Support, Corporate Services and Prevention Divisions. You will provide reports, recommendations and advice about emerging issues and risks, plus strategic opportunities to inform business plans, budgets and decisions. You will engage with CCV’s leadership, CEO, Board, Ambassadors, Volunteers and evolving network of Partners, Donors, Supporters and Volunteers to connect, build sustainable relationships and leverage opportunities to secure significant funding for cancer research, prevention programs and support services.

About YOU

  • Strong alignment to CCV’s values – Excellence, Integrity and Compassion §Strategic, innovative and results-driven leader with proven success in building partnerships and philanthropy programs
  • Sound communication, stakeholder management, public speaking/presentation and influencing skills
  • A compelling story-teller to engage the hearts and minds of donors along the philanthropic journey, along with the confidence to do ‘The Ask’ in order to secure transformational and multi-year gifts
  • Ability to lead, inspire and mentor a high performing team, plus foster a positive and collaborative culture
  • Commercial acumen, financial literacy, problem-solving ability and project management skills
  • A customer service and donor-centric approach, commitment to quality and ability to drive continuous improvement
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications, CFRE or membership of the Fundraising Institute of Australia is highly regarded
