The partnership
The Officer Specialist School is a purpose-built school providing educational programs for students with mild to severe intellectual and associated disabilities in the shires of Cardinia and Casey. Staff include special education teachers, a physiotherapist, speech therapists, occupational therapists, a social worker, a nurse, specialist teachers, and Education Support Staff, working collaboratively to provide outstanding learning programs.

The Mental Health Practitioners (MHP) initiative provides an opportunity for suitably qualified mental health professionals in all government secondary school campuses.

This position will sit operationally within headspace School Services team, however, report to the Head of Wellbeing at Officer Specialist School and operate according to and collaboratively with the Department of Education and Training's Area-based multi-disciplinary teams.

About the role

Who we’re looking for

The headspace team is looking for a part-time (.6FTE) Mental Health Practitioner to join this exciting partnership until December 2022!

If you have experience working within the disability sector combined with demonstrated clinical mental health experience working with young people and their families/carers with a range of mental health issues, then you might be exactly the person we’re looking for!

We are seeking someone who is passionate about youth mental health, excited about taking ownership of their day and creating a quality customer-centric service. You will have natural leadership qualities, strong communication skills and a proven ability to work confidentially and productively with a high level of tact and diplomacy.

Holding a qualification in Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Nursing with a mental health specialisation or Psychology, is highly regarded.

 

What you’ll be doing

As a Mental Health Practitioner, no two days will be the same. You will provide a range of flexible and assertive mental health services with a focus on individual, group work and family treatment for students presenting mild to moderate mental health difficulties, providing counselling, assessments, coordination supports through referrals and liaison with external agencies.

You will also be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of health and wellbeing support programs and strategies within an educational environment, including training and upskilling to other professional staff.

Who you’ll be working with

You will be co-located at Officer Specialist School during the school term where you will work alongside other specialist staff to support the diverse student needs. However, you will sit operationally within EACH’s headspace School Services team where you will have the support of an innovative school-focused collaborative and multidisciplinary group of clinicians.

You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of health service professionals who are dedicated to working with young people and their families to achieve the best possible outcomes.
