The Strategy and Support Division places people at the centre of everything we do.  We work directly with clinicians, researchers, policymakers and people affected by Cancer to reduce inequities and improve outcomes for all Victorians, now and into the future.  Our division comprises of Cancer Information and Support Services, Research Governance and Optimal Care (RGOC), Cancer Strategy, the McCabe Centre for Law & Cancer, Marketing and Communications and the Business Management Unit.  

The Research Governance and Optimal Care (RGOC) Unit manages the research policies and processes for Cancer Council Victoria. As well as overseeing competitive grant funding for clinical and biomedical research in Victorian hospitals, universities and research institutes and supporting our researchers to access external research funding; the RGOC Unit provides secretariat support to Cancer Council Victoria’s Human Research Ethics Committee and is responsible for the development and distribution of Optimal Care Pathways. The RGOC Unit is also responsible for the collection of state-wide clinical trial data in Victoria (via a program called the Cancer Trials Management Scheme) and provides information about locally occurring clinical trials to the public on the Victorian Cancer Trials Link

About the role

We are seeking a Research Grants Lead to join the RGOC unit. Reporting to the Manager, Research Governance your role is to:

  • Manage the administration of the funding schemes offered by Cancer Council Victoria and the relevant oversight committees.
  • Support Cancer Council research staff with advice, information and coordination for applications, acceptance and compliance processes for external grant bodies (including the NHMRC, NIH etc.), filling the function of Research Administration Officer.
  • Act as the primary contact for all external queries and matters relating to Cancer Council Victoria-funded research grants.
  • Assist with the preparation of budgets, research and grant related information.
  • Manage the electronic Grants Management System (Salesforce) for all end-to-end grant processing, assisting stakeholders (applicants, RAO’s and assessors) using the system and working on continuous improvement with CCV’s Salesforce Systems Administrator.
  • Coordinate a group of Community Representatives to assist in the assessment of grant applications, including training and process improvement.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A tertiary degree in a related field, and/or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience and a proven track record in a similar role, within a research grants environment.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in managing formal committees and meeting procedures.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve complex problems in a timely manner.
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills.
  • Well-developed writing skills and verbal communication skills.
  • Initiative and a solution-orientated approach.
