About the role

 

Transitions Coordinator – Permanent Part Time

50 hours per fortnight

Located in Carramar, The Building a Bridge to High School Project services selected schools in the Bankstown LGA and targets Year 5 and 6 children as they transition to high school. This role has one direct report and is responsible for the effective delivery of several targeted activities and events to school-identified students that may need extra support to successfully transition. The Transitions Coordinator’s primary objective is to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable children and young people transitioning from primary school to high school by facilitating evidence based programs to build skills, improving parenting capacity in parenting of adolescents and assisting to build relationships between children, young people, their families and their schools to enhance engagement with education.

 

MAIN DUTIES (but not limited to)

  • Coordination and facilitation of evidence based programs for children in schools to build personal capacity
  • Coordination of tours and provision of support to students in their transition to high school
  • Organisation of talks and guest speakers on appropriate topics for students and their parents/caregivers which are required for a healthy transition to high school
  • Coordination and delivery of evidence based parenting programs/information sessions that enhance the understanding of adolescence supporting a transition to high school
  • Identification areas of concern to relevant staff in schools or parents/carers and recommendation of appropriate, specialised services for referral
  • Effective management and mentoring of one direct reporting staff member
  • Maintaining culturally appropriate and diversity sensitive facilitation of services, program and activities
  • Collection and recording of pre/post program surveys, consent and other data, as well as generation of reports as required

 

 

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA (including but not limited to)

  1. Degree level qualifications in the areas of Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences or equivalent.
  2. Minimum 2 years’ practical experience working with children and/or young people in the delivery of outcomes focussed group work, case work and/or support services to children and families.
  3. Experience in the delivery of programs and/or groups to culturally and linguistically diverse communities, ATSI and an understanding of the diverse needs of clients.
  4. Previous experience in staff or volunteer management.
  5. A commitment to social justice principles and an understanding of the importance of education.
  6. Australian Drivers Licence, own vehicle and willingness to transport program equipment using this.
  7. Current and verified Working with Children Check and adequately clear National Police Check
