About the role

A bit about the role
As a Practice Lead Counselling and Mental Health, you will supervise and provide clinical supervision to a vibrant team of children and youth counsellors who provide counselling to young people and families within Wyndham. You will draw on your expertise and experience in engaging at risk young people and will effectively advocate all issues in relation to mental health.

A confident leader, you will provide consultation and supervision to Council staff, providing strategies and expert advice on issues related to mental health and improving wellbeing. As an innovative and creative thinker, you will keep to continually improve at the forefront of what you do – ensuring the counselling service and youth services programs are tailored to meet the needs of local young people and families and are forged from evidence based research.

No two days are the same in this role, with responsibilities spanning from 1:1 counselling sessions, presentations, stakeholder meetings you will have the balance of client work and leadership functions in your role. Your knowledge of contemporary best practice in the area of therapy, counselling and supporting young people will ensure successful outcomes for community members.

What you’ll deliver

  • Provide intake, assessment, confidential generalist counselling and family inclusive casework and/or a range of other counselling interventions to children, young people and families to help them reach their goals, improve their wellbeing, and strengthen their relationships
  • Lead and support the day to day operational coordination of the Youth Services Counselling service, ensuring that services are aligned to Councils key priorities and are reflective of the diverse and changing needs of the community
  • Provide professional direction, clinical supervision, expert advice, representation and reporting in the areas of counselling and youth mental health and wellbeing

What you’ll bring

  • Proven track record in building and maintaining positive working relationships, across multiple sectors and with a range of organisations and community members
  • Substantial experience in family therapy, counselling and engaging children and young people in a community setting
  • Substantial experience in providing clinical supervision to practitioners
  • Ability to work collaboratively and autonomously, being confident in your abilities and being able to provide advice to other team members
  • Tertiary qualification in Psychology or Counselling with a Post Graduate Qualification
  • Positive leadership skills to motivate and inspire others to work together as a team to achieve objectives
  • A positive, curious and flexible mind
