Our growing service if made up of 42 employees and work across four locations across Wyndham and our state-of-the-art mobile youth facility. We run more than 340 programs and events annually and engage a total of 15,000 young people and their families into our service annually.

About the role

A bit about the role
We are seeking a highly skilled Team Leader to join the Street Surfer Bus team to develop and facilitate programs and services for young people, that builds capacity and resilience in young people and creates opportunities for them to connect to their local community.

The Street Surfer Bus aims to provide a welcoming space for young people, where they can engage with the youth services team, have fun and access support. It provides young people with a wide range of outreach activities and services, including counselling, legal advice, foodbank, employment whilst providing a safe space for young people to engage and access additional support.

The role will provide leadership and coordination of the Street Surfer Bus team, whilst working on the bus delivering programs and projects for young people and their families.

What you’ll deliver

  • Programs, projects and services for young people via the Street Surfer Bus that is consistent with the strategic planning of Youth Services
  • Outreach and engagement services to young people in geographically isolated areas that builds capacity, resilience and creates opportunities for them to participate and connect to their local community
  • Networks and collaborative ways of working with support services, government agencies, schools and other services providers to provide young people with seamless connection to services
  • Effective leadership, support and supervision for direct reports within the Street Surfer Bus team ensuring the day to day operational management of the service and facility

What you’ll bring

  • Extensive experience in staff and team management, with well developed strategies for team development, management, supervision and managing people in changing environments
  • Substantial experience in working directly and collaboratively with young people, volunteers and community organisations in the delivery of programs for young people
  • Demonstrated experience working within youth theoretical frameworks, including adolescent development, group work, youth participation and community development
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation, evaluation and reporting of programs and services
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining strategic partnerships and stakeholder relationships.
  • Proven ability to successfully engage and communicate with a diverse range of young people of varying abilities and needs, their families and communities
  • Highly effective communication and teamwork skills, and computer literacy
  • Degree qualification in Youth Work, Community Development, Social Work or a related discipline and relevant experience in the generalist Youth Sector or lesser formal qualification and substantial relevant experience in the Youth Sector as a practitioner
