Palliative Care Australia (PCA) has a rewarding opportunity for a passionate and dedicated National Policy & Projects Director to join the organisation and lead the policy and programs team in Griffith, Canberra, ACT.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the CEO, this pivotal role is responsible for leading the policy, advocacy and project agenda to position PCA as a respected national leader in advocating for palliative care.  The position will also ensure there are strategic linkages across PCA’s national policy and program agenda, which the organisation is funded to deliver and support across Australia.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to: 

  • Taking a leadership role in identifying strategic program and policy initiatives of value to PCA in accordance with the PCA Strategic Direction and Annual Operating Plan and overseeing related research, analysis and tender development
  • Preparing program and policy background material and developing proposed action strategies, scoping documents, briefs and funding submissions in support of PCA’s efforts to advance sector interests relative to identified trends and emerging issues
  • Leading and managing program and policy teams to ensure the achievement of program and policy objectives and deliverables
  • Representing PCA on national committees, working groups in the palliative care and wider health sectors, and the Australian Government
  • Providing high level support to the CEO in contract management negotiations and monitoring and evaluating the ongoing progression of programs and policy initiatives, relative to PCA’s governance framework, budgets and milestones.

To be considered for this role you will possess tertiary qualifications in a related discipline, and will have significant demonstrated experience managing and delivering national policies and programs.

With a finely developed ability to traverse complex environments and a changing political landscape, you’ll be able to provide clear direction and leverage program and policy opportunities for PCA.

You will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to forge strong and lasting relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. As a highly motivated self-starter with excellent organisational and time-management skills, you will be able to take the initiative in driving new projects and work well under pressure to deliver high-quality business outcomes.

You’ll possess excellent negotiation and relationship management skills and will be able to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders. Importantly, you will be able to lead, manage and develop others to achieve organisational goals and objectives.

Prior experience working within the not-for-profit sector and an understanding of policies and issues relevant to palliative care would be highly regarded.
