About the role

Reporting to the CEO, the Head of Finance role provides effective management of the organisation’s finances and operations. In this hands-on role, you will oversee and maintain financial systems and procedures, ensuring that all financial reporting, financial management and accountability requirements are met to support the organisation’s goal of maintaining its financial sustainability. You will also need to identify and deliver operational risk mitigation, IT and property management services.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership across all areas of finance and operations
  • Develop, recommend, and manage the annual budget
  • Provide financial analysis, and forecasting
  • Maintain records in compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, ATO, ACNC and other regulatory requirements.
  • Manage financial reporting to the Board, and Board subcommittees.
  • Develop financial strategies and initiatives to achieve business objectives and drive financial performance.
  • Provide timely information and analyses to enable effective decision-making.
  • Oversee the work of an external bookkeeper
  • Manage the year end audit process
  • Oversight of appropriate risk identification and compliance frameworks, to ensure Variety NSW/ACT meets its statutory and legal obligations under the relevant legislation
  • Proactively manage risk, compliance and regulatory (eg. ATO, ACNC) across the organisation including business continuity and disaster recovery plans
  • Develop, update and maintain financial and operational policies and procedures

 

The successful applicant will possess:

  • A commitment to making a difference to children who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with disabilities.
  • CA/CPA qualified
  • Prior experience in similar position
  • Relevant experience in accounting, budgeting, forecasting, business partnering and financial reporting
  • Proficient in Xero and ApprovalMax advantageous
  • A strategic outlook and ability to provide business insights.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines on high profile and results-oriented tasks.
  • Proven business and financial acumen with superior decision-making ability.
  • Valid Working with Children Check.
  • Eligibility to work in Australia on a permanent basis
