The Foundation for Young
Australians is trialling a new philanthropic project that asks young business and community leaders to get involved ‘at the coal face’ of giving.
It’s called the Bright Minds Bright Futures project which the Foundation describes as an alternative to existing models of philanthropy – offering a higher level of engagement especially with how the contributed funds are spent.
The Foundation is looking for accomplished 25-40 year old community and business leaders to take part in the trial which involves contributing a small amount of money and attending two 1-day workshops.
The Foundation’s co-investment manager, Susie te Velde says once recruited, the trial group will come together to set the goals, vision and outcomes as well as learn about youth issues and philanthropy in Australia. The group will decide how they want to spend their contributed funds, working alongside the Foundation.
The aim is to also provide a unique opportunity to build networks with like-minded leaders and create an opportunity for young people to get involved in decision making. The Foundation for Young Australians currently makes grants of over $8 million annually to young people.
