ACNC to Hit the Road Early this Year

The newly established charity regulator, the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) has announced the dates for its free community presentations across the country early this year.
Scheduled for January and February, the ACNC says that the presentations will give charities and Not for Profit organisations the chance to hear from senior ACNC staff face-to-face.
The ACNC says participants will also have the chance to ask, as well as the opportunity to participate in two consultations relevant to the Not for Profit sector: the ACNC’s regulatory approach consultation and the government’s consultation on governance standards and reporting.
“We will be available to answer your questions, listen to your feedback and to explain our role as Australia’s first independent charity regulator,” ACNC Commissioner Susan Pascoe said.
The ACNC opened its doors in November last year following a number of delays in passing the legislation through Parliament.
The ACNC says it is keen to ensure a national presence, and the community presentation program will see the Commission travel to all Australian capital cities as well as Alice Springs, Lismore, Shepparton, Townsville, Launceston and Bunbury.
Registration to attend the free presentations is vital. People who are unable to attend a session but wish to provide feedback on how the ACNC will use their regulatory powers can respond online.

The ACNC says that the program will be followed by further regional briefings across Australia in the first half of 2013.
