Volunteering Australia and the peak state volunteering bodies are recruiting every-day volunteers to appear in this year’s National Volunteer Week 2013 promotional campaign.

National Volunteer Week, held on May 13-19, is an annual campaign which aims to celebrate the contribution of Australia’s volunteers.

Volunteering Australia says its campaign will rely on promoting the diverse and talented community of volunteers who are making a difference across the nation.

The organisation is inviting applications from volunteers of all ages, cultures, abilities and religious faiths to be photographed for the campaign materials.

Volunteering Australia says that images will be used in campaign materials including posters, banners, social media, websites, press and television advertising, and newsletters.

As part of the campaign, photographs will be taken of individual volunteers holding a sign that says ‘thank you’.

Volunteering Victoria chief executive Sue Noble said it was really important to use 'real' volunteers in the campaign as so much of volunteering is about the actual individuals who take on volunteering roles.

“Without them we would be much poorer as a community. So identifying them and acknowledging them as individuals is, I think, really important,” Noble said.

Noble said that an important aspect of the campaign was to show how varied Australian volunteers are.

“Not just in who they are and where they come from, but the vast range of work they do in our community – they are fundraisers, umpires, home visitors, bookkeepers, electricians, the builders and cleaners in recovery efforts after floods and bushfires – they contribute and make our Not for Profits function at a most basic and essential level,” she said.

“The hope is that this campaign will demonstrate the variety – of people who volunteer, and the work they do – and perhaps challenge ideas about what it means to be a volunteer.

“But most of all, this campaign is about acknowledging the debt of gratitude we have for volunteers – and the people who coordinate and manage volunteer efforts. Imagine what the world would look like if they didn't do what they do?”

    Would you be able to let us know where ,when you would need the volunteer? Also would you want us to send the names of potential volunteers or the volunteer to contact you directly?
    Any other information that might be useful would also be appreciated i.e. not on the email information
