About the Role
LOCATION: 67 Brunswick St, Fitzroy
HOURS: 1 day/week – flexible (at least 3 months commitment)
Summary of program and its objectives
The Schools Engagement Program is an experiential learning program for young people about leadership, social justice and poverty reduction. The aim of the Schools Engagement Program is to build awareness around issues relating to social justice in a fun and engaging way. We break down stereotypes through meaningful community engagement and inspire young people to be agents of positive change.
This is mainly carried out through Urban Camps, day programs student placement opportunities.
Main responsibilities of the role
We are currently seeking a volunteer to help us with the background operations of the Schools Engagement Program. Tasks for this role may include but are not limited to liaising with community partners to book in Urban Camp activities (e.g. English classes with young people from refugee backgrounds, organisations who work with people who are homeless); putting together Urban Camp show bags; photocopying, scanning, printing and filing Schools Engagement Program documents and other office related duties; assisting with setting up rooms for various Schools Engagement Program events; liaising with volunteers about availability to attend Urban Camps and day programs; occasionally travel outside of the Brotherhood head office to purchase office supplies or activity materials as required; ensure personal and sensitive information is managed in accordance with Privacy legislation.
To meet the selection criteria, candidate will require:
*a fun and positive attitude
* good office administration skills
* intermediate computer skills, using MS Office applications, specifically MS Word and Excel
* experience in record management desired but not essential
* great communication skills
* ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
* great organisational skills
* ability to take initiative but also work as part of a team
* understanding of and empathy with the values and ideals of the Brotherhood
* willingness to undergo a satisfactory Police Check and Working with Children Check.
