About the role

The Arts Bus is a mobile arts studio, theatre and music space, enabling Artists for Kids Culture (AKC) to facilitate meaningful, thoughtful and therapeutic arts activities. Like a ‘mobile library’, the Arts Bus travels to children for free, eliminating issues of access. It brings quality arts practices to children aged 6 – 17 who would otherwise miss out.

AKC piloted the Arts Bus in 2018 over two weeks with 275 children and young people. After receiving positive feedback from 100% of children and partnering organisations involved, AKC equipped a new bus to commence programs in 2021. We’re seeking a team of artists and volunteers to facilitate afternoon arts bus programs.

With the support of the Arts Bus Program Manager and other attending artists, volunteers contribute to a safe and supportive learning environment for all children. Creative materials and activities will be provided on the day. The key role of volunteers is to provide individual, hands-on and strength-based guidance to children and young people attending.

About the organisation

Organisation name : Artists For Kids' Culture

For over 25 years, Artists for Kids' Culture (AKC) has been providing benevolent relief to children experiencing hardship. AKC gives monetary grants, allowing children to participate in cultural, artistic, musical, sporting and educational activities; enhancing a child’s wellbeing through inclusion.

Our Vision is the belief that opportunities are important for every child and that they demonstrate benefits in both learning and social skills. We value hope. We respect children, their supporters and families. Learn more at: www.akc.org.au

The Arts Bus was piloted in December 2018 and launched in February 2021 across three locations in Melbourne. The Arts Bus is a mobile arts studio, theatre and music space, enabling AKC to facilitate meaningful, thoughtful and therapeutic arts activities. It brings quality arts practices to children who would otherwise miss out.

Many young people and children with complex lives find it hard to get to programs due to transport, responsibilities, and financial  hardship. The Arts Bus comes to them. It's about providing a best practice creative service for free, and about letting young people and children explore, create and grow.
