About the role
artsbus Volunteer – Position Specification
The artsbus is a mobile arts studio, theatre and music space, enabling Artists for Kids Culture (AKC) to facilitate meaningful, thoughtful and therapeutic arts activities. Like a ‘mobile library’, the Arts Bus travels to children for free, eliminating issues of access. It brings quality arts practices to children aged 5 – 17 who would otherwise miss out.
AKC piloted the artsbus in 2018 and launched in April 2021. As our programs expand, we’re looking for a team of artists and volunteers to facilitate afternoon artsbus programs during the school term. With the support of the AKC artsbus Program Manager and other attending artists, volunteers contribute to a safe and supportive learning environment for all children. Creative materials and activities will be provided on the day; the key role of volunteers is to provide individual, hands-on and strength-based guidance to children and young people attending.
Volunteer Responsibilities
- Hold Current Working with Children Check
- Contribute to a safe and supportive learning environment for all children
- Facilitate art activities that are relevant to the children’s age

The artsbus is a mobile arts studio, theatre and music space, enabling AKC to facilitate meaningful, thoughtful and therapeutic arts activities. It brings quality arts practices to children who would otherwise miss out. Many young people and children with complex lives find it hard to get to programs due to transport, responsibilities, and financial hardship. The artsbus comes to them. It's about providing a best practice creative service for free, and about letting young people and children explore, create and grow.
