About the Role
The Nature School in Port Macquarie in NSW is a fledgling school, with capacity for 25 students at present in its primary school. Nevertheless, our school is the first of its kind in Australia and we have attracted considerable interest and support from the NSW Education Department, program partners, sponsors, donors, and the press.
Our philosophy is that we have a world in which all people learn from and within nature.
The school was incorporated in March 2015 as a not for profit association and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. There are 3 programs which now incorporates a primary school, an early years program and a Little Explorers playgroup,
The school was successful in securing competitive funding from the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and has a permit to use a council managed Crown reserve. The Australian Geographic Society awarded The Nature School a sponsorship prize to allow children from disadvantaged backgrounds to attend our sessions. In 2016 the school was certified as an Australian Registered Charity.
In the beginning of 2017, the organization commenced a playgroup for children aged 0-3 years old and their families as a feeder program for the Early Years Program. In October 2017 the NSW Minister of Education signed The Nature School Primary license and in January 2018, The Nature School Primary opened its doors to Kindergarten – Year 2 children.
With limited budgets at present, we are seeking a qualified auditor to undertake some pro bono work for us. We are happy to work with anyone across Australia if they are happy to provide us some of their valuable time.
