About the organisation
Witu is an island in the South West Pacific or more specifically in the Bismarck Sea, the island is a part of Papua New Guinea.
During the early years the island was a prime producer of copra. When the world copra price dropped the island was left to fend for itself. Over the years the community have struggled to grow and to improve lifestyle standards and being an island has also made it difficult.
Family and friends of the island community decided to find ways to help improve the life of the people of the island and so Witu Island Humanitarian Association Australia Limited (WIHAA)was formed as well as Witu Island Humanitarian Association Papua New Guinea (WIHAPNG) Inc.
WIHAA is committed to work with the people and communities of the Witu People in conjunction with the WIHAPNG. To improve the lives and futures of the islands people by assisting with access to affordable - elementary, primary, and secondary education, improving access to quality healthcare and the development of humanitarian and spiritual initiatives.
