About the role
Volunteers have the opportunity to assist the Beyond the Broncos Mentoring Program and Girls Academy by providing tutor support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in our affiliated High Schools.
The Brisbane Broncos’ Beyond the Broncos Program’s invite Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students attending participating high schools in South East Queensland the opportunity to participate in a program that encourages and rewards improvements in school attendance, effort, behaviour and ultimately successfully completing Year 12. We currently support around 1,000 students and work in schools across South East Queensland.
Volunteers will assist in providing one-on-one academic support in literacy and numeracy to Beyond the Broncos students in predominantly English, Maths, History, Geography and Science. This support greatly improves our capacity to assist our young people and assist us to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.
For volunteers the experience will develop their understanding of school procedures, develop communication with teachers and school staff, develop cross cultural communication skills and cultural awareness, provide insight into how Indigenous students experience life in school and gain fulfillment of seeing a student improve through their guidance.
While opportunities are unpaid, tutors will receive a Broncos Polo shirt, Broncos merchandise, game tickets and invitations to exclusive Broncos events.
