Board Committee: External Member Position

Communify Queensland Ltd is seeking to recruit external members for three of its Board Committees:
Strategic Development Advisory Committee
Finance Audit and Risk Committee
Communications Committee.
From small beginnings as a neighbourhood centre, Communify has grown over the past 40 years to be a key independent, profit-for-good organisation working alongside communities within the inner, northern and western suburbs of Brisbane.
Communify provides services through three neighbourhood centres located at Bardon, New Farm and Kelvin Grove, a homeless service in Fortitude Valley, a day activity centre at Paddington, a child care centre at Bardon and mental health and associated services from Bardon and Spring Hill. We provide services for people with aged care packages and NDIS packages.
Communify is the venue manager for over 17 facilities. There are over 20 separate income streams for the organisation, and in 2017-18, total revenue was $9.5M with a profit of $434K. There are over 150 full and part time staff and casuals providing services to over 7,000 clients. An overview of the organisation is on our website www.communify.org.au.
COMMITTEES
The Board of Directors has established four Board Committees in line with the pillars of our Strategic Plan, with Terms of Reference for their work to support the outcome statement for the particular pillar. The pillars are:
Influence: We will bring about social change and inclusion by influencing public policy and awareness through engagement and advocacy. Responsibility of the Board
Leader: We will be an innovative leader in providing consumer directed support through flexible, integrated and networked programs and services. Responsibility of Strategic Development Advisory Committee
High Profile: We will be recognised for excellence as a creator and facilitator of work that delivers positive life outcomes and community connections. Responsibility of the Communications Committee
Sustainable: We will remain sustainable in changing times by growing and diversifying our financial resources and embracing new business opportunities. Responsibility of the Finance Audit and Risk Committee, and the Investment Committee.
EXTERNAL MEMBER
Each Committee is convened by a Director from the Board, with other Directors as members, and Communify seeks to ensure representation of at least one external member for three of the Committees as identified. The external member would attend at minimum quarterly meetings and other meetings as required. Competencies for the member would cover four areas:
Professional and industry knowledge – knowledge and expertise of the field covered by a Committee, including some knowledge/experience of the sectors covered by the Committee’s responsibilities.
Collaboration and communication – ability to function as an effective Committee member and actively contribute to discussions with appropriate preparation for meetings.
Integrity and Interest – act with integrity and with a genuine interest in the organisation.
Judgement – the ability to demonstrate sound judgement and business acumen.
External members may be approached in due course for interest in becoming a Director.
