Seeks to Appoint a Board Director with Fundraising Expertise

The Wilderness Society is a dynamic not-for-profit environmental campaigning and advocacy organisation. Our revenue is derived solely through our significant fundraising portfolio.

We are currently seeking to appoint a Director with professional fundraising experience to complement the existing skillset on the Board. Our volunteer Board plays a crucial governance role in the organisation and comprises up to nine Directors, two of which may be appointed by the Board for a period of 12 to 36 months.

We are looking for candidates that meet the following criteria:

• An interest in supporting the valuable work of The Wilderness Society.
• Commitment to and understanding of the principles of good governance.
• Professional experience in developing fundraising strategy and income generation initiatives across traditional and digital channels.
• Ability and experience in developing productive and engaging strategic relationships.
• Willingness to explore initiatives to build relationships with major donors.
• Experience assessing and recommending strategic improvements to existing fundraising operations.

Your demonstrated creativity in generating new ideas and fundraising opportunities will be highly regarded.

Commitment Required

The Board currently meets bi-monthly by teleconference on an agreed evening during the week and face-to-face approximately twice per year (travel provided). Directors are required to read relevant papers in preparation for meetings and may be required to join a committee of the Board. You should anticipate a time commitment of up to 10 hours per month. There is no requirement to reside in any specific location, as The Wilderness Society is a national organisation with Directors from across Australia. Please note that financial membership of the organisation is a prerequisite to joining the Board.
