About the role

Are you someone that has an interest or experience in the mental health sector?

We are looking for people from all walks of life to join our Board to champion the role of creative prescription in mental health and support our small organisation as it continues to grow rapidly, with a national reach.

Our Board currently has four members and we are actively recruiting for a fifth.  We recognise that mental health is experienced by the whole community and we want to ensure that our Board represents the diverse community we serve.

We strongly welcome applicants from First Nations, culturally diverse, disability and d/Deaf, and/or marginalised communities.

About the organisation

Organisation name : MakeShift

MakeShift is one of Australia’s first creative prescribing agencies, and our model of Creative First Aid is offering a dynamic, innovative intervention in the mental health space across the country.

Based in Woonona, Wollongong NSW with a national reach, MakeShift is a non-profit organisation managed by a voluntary Board, a part-time team of 5, plus a core team of contracted artists and creatives. 

Organisational income is derived from ticketed courses, corporate and organisational contracts, and government grants and funding, including the Sidney Myer Foundation, NSW Recovery Boost, icare NSW Foundation, and Create NSW.

this by offering programmes, events and training that have delight, wonder and curiosity

at their core. We believe creativity is a vital prescription for health, and in the agency of

the individuals to manage their own wellbeing.

Our Work

We deliver the following programs, online and F2F:


Mental Health First Aid: 

a nationally accredited training course for members of the public to gain skills in supporting others with regards to mental health. This includes running public courses, as well as delivering training through private contracts. We are one of Australia’s primary training providers for the Creative Industry sector.


Creative First Aid Programs:


  • ReMind Creative Prescription 8 week course : a trauma informed, evidence based program that works with people on Workers’ Compensation claims, and people with NDIS funding to explore a range of creative practices and build strategies in self care and self regulation. The program includes home delivered materials, live weekly zooms, video instructions and resources.


  • Press Play Creative Courses: 4 week online and F2F courses for people to kickstart a creative habit, as well as learn how this practice can support their mental wellbeing


  • Lunch Break: A 4 week program for workplaces and teams to experience evidence-based creative practices for positive wellbeing habits. Delivered in one hour zoom sessions.


  • Bespoke Creative First Aid Programs: co-designed with clients, we pull together programs that feature content on mental health self-efficacy and care, creative habits for wellbeing, and social prescribing
