Cultivating Community is a not for profit organisation working toward an equitable food system that sustains the health and diversity of our communities and our environment. Our passion for creating a better food future involves activities spanning food systems advocacy and support, urban agriculture, community food hubs, school food gardens, food waste management and environmental education.
We work in partnership with DHHS to manage community gardens on public housing estates and in doing so support over 700 people to grow their own food. We deliver impactful school food garden programs by providing a dedicated weekly resource to schools to engage 500+ children in outdoor classrooms where they learn about growing food in sustainable ways. Through our Community Food Centre programs we work collaboratively with many local NFPs, health centres and community networks to facilitate opportunities for low income communities to have access to and learn about good food. We also support micro and social enterprise food businesses. We have partnered with local councils to deliver on community garden programs and governance, community composting frameworks and food waste minimisation initiatives.
