About the role

OVERVIEW

Melbourne Youth Chorale’s (MYC) teaching philosophy is based on the teachings of Hungarian music Educator, Zoltan Kodály. He expressed the need to “open the soul to all peoples”, suggesting that, “If we want  to understand other nations, we first must understand ourselves. There is no better means for this than folk music. (Source: The Kodály Music Education Institute of Australia).

Offering weekly rehearsals, and small group music theory classes, free of cost, to young people 6-20 years from diverse backgrounds and abilities, MYC challenges its members to achieve music excellence and has produced some national award winning musicians.

As a vibrant community hub, MYC works to promote social service amongst its choristers and their families who volunteer to support MYC, with regular performances at civic ceremonies, aged care homes and other community events.

MYC is seeking community-minded board members with an interest in nurturing youth to make a lasting impact in their lives, families and communities.

In particular we seek:

a Treasurer with solid experience to oversee the strategic financial health of the organisation as we explore exciting new projects to multiply our operations in new locations. This role supervises a paid bookkeeper.

a Stakeholder Manager (general board member), with networking and business development experience, to build and strengthen relationships to support MYC’s growth initiatives.
