About the role

RUN FOR IT is a youth-led organisation completely powered by young people who volunteer their time. Our mission is to fix Australian politics and democracy by engaging young people in elections and voting! This goes beyond visiting your MP or sending a letter through… we will support young people to run campaigns in elections with the goal of electing as many young people in our governments as possible!

Right now we are looking for young people across the continent to lead election campaigns, with the goal of getting as many young people elected as possible!

What does this role involve?

  • Early on, some training on election campaigning, fundraising, candidate experience and strategy
  • Contributing to strategy and planning in early days
  • Connecting with other committed young people around the continent to create a groundbreaking campaign
  • Creating resources to support young first-time candidates
  • Connecting with experienced councillors, MPs and campaigners to organise training for young candidates
  • Supporting young candidates with their campaigns throughout the process, including their plans, their volunteer recruitment, their social media campaign and their general health and wellbeing (this is mostly done through 1:1 calls and check-ins)
  • Organising events to reach as many young voters as possible
  • Constant support from the RUN FOR IT Team

Does this sound interesting to you? What we are looking for is…

  • 5+ young people, aged younger than 35 years
  • Young people based in Australia
  • People who are interested and capable of working remotely but also in person
  • Can commit to 12 months of engagement (hours will be capped at about 6 hours per week, but is usually less)
  • Has some experience campaigning, which might be with another organisation during elections, or on any other social issue (you’ll have an opportunity to share this with us in the application form)

Are you ready to join us?

About the organisation

Organisation name : RUN FOR IT

ABOUT RUN FOR IT

RUN FOR IT seeks to change the problems with politics. We want to help young community leaders and people from historically marginalised communities enter the democracy and set a new agenda. We want to encourage and support energetic and bold young people to run strategic and successful campaigns to create a better kind of politics in Australia.

OUR VALUES

Climate and Environmental Justice

We fight for climate action by pursuing zero emission policies, opposing the influence of the fossil fuel industry and centring people who are most affected by climate impacts.

Economic Justice

Everyone has the right to dignity, security and the ability to meet their needs. No one should live in poverty. We oppose policies that put public goods in private hands and we fight for universal services that give everyone a chance at a fulfilling and healthy life.

Social Justice

We believe that opportunities, and privileges should be fairly distributed within a society. No person should be treated differently based on their race, background, gender, sexuality, able-bodiedness or class. We will be actively anti-racist and work to dismantle systems of oppression.

OUR VISION

We envision a world where politics accurately represents young people and takes the needs and concerns of young people seriously. Where young people face no barriers to engaging in politics and feel comfortable speaking up for what they believe in.

A type of politics where young people are inspired by their peers in politics and the real concerns of young people are addressed and responded to.
