About the role

CoderDojo is a worldwide movement of free, volunteer-led, community-based programming clubs for young people (7-17). At a Dojo kids can learn to code, build a website, create an app or a game, and explore technology in an informal, creative, and social environment.

We currently have Dojos in Balmain, Parramatta, North Ryde, Sydney CBD and Wollongong, and are looking for awesome Champions to help set up new Dojos across NSW. Champions DO NOT need to have a technology background but each Dojo will need at least 1-2 mentors with a technology background.

Responsibilities of a Champion (you’ll have support from other Champions who have done this before):

  • Organise a venue and time for the Dojo (typically 2 hours per week) – usually this is a local library, council or company Co-ordinate attendance – includes managing RSVPs for each term, and ensuring participant forms are completed
  • Ensure there is a safe and fun learning environment for children
  • Source and co-ordinate mentors – you’ll need at least 1 to get started (e.g. ensuring they have Working with Children Checks, understand their expectations)
  • Promote your Dojo, e.g. applying for grants/sponsorship from local companies, spreading the word in local schools/media. You’ll have support from CoderDojo NSW to do this.

For more info see here: https://coderdojo.com/

Essential: Passion for children’s education, technology, creativity and fun. Currently be an IT professional OR be willing to learn along with the kids! A commitment to our “Be Cool” philosophy. You will need to complete a Working with Children Check
