About the role
The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is an Australian Government funded program to recruit volunteers to visit older people in residential aged care or those in receipt of a Home Care package who are socially isolated. These volunteers provide friendship and companionship through visits either one-on-one or in a small group setting.
Accessible Diversity Services Initiative Limited (ADSI) has been successful recently to provide this valuable service to the elderly living in residential aged care. ADSi recruits, trains and supports visitors from a culturally and linguistically diverse background and matches them with residents of the same cultural background.
Volunteer visitors need to meet certain criteria to join the team including a National Criminal Record Check, which our worker will guide you through. If you can speak another language, please let us know. Italian, Korean and Russian speaking volunteers are desired. When you become a volunteer you have the opportunity to meet other volunteers at educational and social events and to learn new skills relevant to the role.
Volunteering as a community visitor can be a rewarding experience. By becoming friends with an older person, you can make a positive difference to their lives as well as your own!
COVID-19 update: phone and virtual friendships will be done while physical distancing measures and visiting restrictions are in place.
