About the role
Have you had a premature or sick baby? Do you want to help others through this difficult journey?
We are seeking Dads who have experienced having their baby in NICU or Special Care Units and who are willing to assist others through this journey. With a team of other volunteers you will provide encouragement, support, and a compassionate ear to other Dads through a facilitated Peer Support Facebook Group.
Families who are part of the Facebook Group are either currently in hospital with their baby, or have just arrived home. Our closed Facebook Group runs on Wednesday evenings 7pm – 9pm AEST. You will be responding to families via a live Facebook chat by typing responses to their comments and questions.
To be a Peer Support Volunteer you will need to be a Dad:
- Who had a premmie or sick baby that spent time in NICU or Special Care Nursery
- Whose child is now aged between 1 – 10 years old
- With good written English
- Who are in the right mental place to support others
- Who have the ability to use Facebook and Microsoft TEAMS
- Who can commit to regular weekly or fortnightly sessions on Wednesday evenings from 7pm – 9pm (AEST). There is no requirement for support outside this session time.
- Who has access to two devices (e.g. a tablet and a laptop, or a phone and a tablet etc.)
You will need to agree to undertake a National Police Check, and there will also be a requirement to complete training prior to your engagement.
