Location : Melbourne
Time required : 5 hours per week
Duration of project : On-going
Sector : Health – General
About the role
Friends for Good is the first national charity working solely on the issue of loneliness.
We operate Friend Line, a service for people experiencing loneliness to chat with friendly volunteers. Through social media we have a safe space for conversations to break down the stigma surrounding this issue, which is very detrimental to our health. In November this year we are organising Australia’s first national conference about loneliness. We also undertake research and hope to build on all of these activities in the near future.
FFG is seeking a Deputy Chairperson to work closely with the Chairperson in leading the board to achieve the vision and mission of our important work. This role would suit someone who is either semi-retired or retired as availability is required during business hours. Experience working on a board is not essential, however leadership skills are. By far the most important criteria is commitment to our mission and a willingness to contribute as part of a committed team with passion and enthusiasm.
Board meetings are held every second month in the Melbourne CBD (Monday evenings 6-8pm) and in the intervening months we ask all board members to participate in one of our sub-committees. In addition the Deputy Chair would need to engage with stakeholders, lead projects, attend meetings and have flexibility to juggle a diverse portfolio of activities.
