About the role

In this free course, you will learn what it means to be a Digital Mentor. This training will help you to support people through their first steps to using computers and the internet, and improve their digital skills. You’ll learn about the language and techniques needed to support someone, and the possible barriers that people who are new to the internet can experience.

This course will also help you to develop the skills and confidence you need to support people on a one-to-one basis, as well as helping small groups. There are no requirements to become a Digital Mentor but we do expect that you have a basic understanding of technology.

Digital Mentors will be trained and fully equipped to go out into the community to train our older Australians. All training, resources and suppoort will be provided free of charge. It is a requirement of this program that you complete a National Police Check, which is at no expense to you. This volunteering opportunity is perfect for anyone looking to gain practical work experience in their spare time and earn a one off $20 Wish gift voucher.

The Digital Mentor training lasts for 2-3 hours and takes place online via Zoom. Training sessions are scheduled as interest arises and will take place during weekdays Once you have sat through the Digital Mentor training, the level of commitment is up to you. If you wish to offer your services once a week or once every few months, it’s entirely up to you! NHWA will do its best to connect you with those seeking help from Digital Mentors.
