About the role
The House of Welcome exists to welcome, shelter and empower people seeking asylum and refugees regardless of their age, gender, sexuality, nationality or religion. We are the largest housing provider for transitional accommodation for people seeking asylum in NSW. We deliver projects and services such as reception assistance, foodbank distribution, client intake, English classes, employment assistance, housing support, material aid delivery, cooking classes, social activities, events and fundraising.
The Drop-in and Reception volunteer is the first point of contact for our clients. They welcome people to the Centre, assist with sign-in, conduct intake assessments and provide assistance as required whilst the client is accessing the Centre.
This role also coordinates the stocking and distribution of food for the House of Welcome’s Foodbank. Clients accessing the Foodbank may have no other source of income, and as a result, may be without basic food and household items. The Drop-In Volunteer plays a crucial role in making clients feel welcome when collecting from the Foodbank.
