About the role

Education Officer (Schools) – Volunteer

Location: Across Sydney NSW, Brisbane City QLD, Adelaide SA, Perth WA, Darwin NT, Hobart TAS, Melbourne VIC

Plastic Oceans Australasia (POA) is looking for Education Officers in the countries major cities to scale up and deliver our Education Program to primary and secondary schools. As Education Officer, you’ll work closely with the Education Coordinator and a wide variety of other volunteers and interns. POA’s mission is to change the world’s attitude towards plastic within a generation. Single use plastics are wreaking havoc on our planet and now more than ever we feel it is imperative to empower young people to change the way they view and use plastic, whilst inspiring others to do the same.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pursue primary and secondary schools to join the Plastic Oceans Australasia Education Program in your state

  • Facilitate onboarding of schools to the Education Program

  • Act as main point of contact for active schools in your state

  • Facilitate/deliver workshops to active schools

  • Regularly collect feedback on schools’ progress in reducing single use plastic waste

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
    We’re looking for someone with:

  • Great communication skills in both written and oral form

  • At least 1 year of demonstrated experience in facilitation of education

    programs/workshops/presentations (particularly with school aged children)

  • Ability to work autonomously

  • Can work online and remotely some of the time

  • Demonstrated ability to use MS Word, Excel and Outlook. Knowledge of Microsoft Teams,

    SharePoint and Microsoft Access an advantage

  • Current (or willing to obtain) National Police Check

  • WWC card

  • Current Drivers Licence

  • Interested in environmental sustainability and passionate about marine life, human health

    and waterways

  • Confidence

  • Familiar with Not for Profit culture
