About the role

*“Visiting the kinder each week has taught me to interact with children, given me a valuable lesson in patience and listening, and gives me a sense of achievement each time I visit.” (Ardoch volunteer)*

Calling all superheroes-in-waiting! If you want to help children have a great start to their educational journey, we want to hear from you.

**How can you help us make a difference?**

In 2019 Ardoch volunteers supported 18,715 children and young people by contributing 35,323 hours of their time working with teachers in schools and early learning centres. We know that early childhood is a crucial time for development, and we need your help to make it a success for these young learners.

You will support children and teachers in Early Years settings in this rewarding volunteer role. Working one-to-one with children or in small groups, you will support their early literacy and numeracy skill development through games, structured activities and play.

With us you can gain:

– training and support to help you feel confident in your role

– ongoing professional development sessions with knowledgeable guest speakers

– a valued place in our vibrant volunteer community

– the opportunity to play an important part in a young person’s education journey

**Who are we?**

Ardoch is a national children’s education charity, working hard to improve educational outcomes for children and young people in communities experiencing disadvantage by providing vital learning and wellbeing resources and activities.

**What do we do?**

We train and mobilise volunteers to schools and early learning centres, with a focus on building strong foundations of education such as literacy and numeracy. We broaden horizons for children by providing access to excursions and inspiring learning experiences.

Basically, we’re showing up for the kids who need our help the most.

**What’s involved?**

This opportunity involves volunteering for 2 hours a week. You will work with children at the same time and at the same centre each week, for a minimum of 6 months.

We are in need of volunteers in Geelong, Greater Dandenong, Frankston, Hume, Wyndham, Melbourne’s Western Region and Melbourne’s North, so there are sure to be opportunities to help schools in your local community.
