About the Organisation

My Choice My Support Inc. is a not-for profit organisation that has recently been established by Community Connections Inc. Community Connections have a long history of working with, and supporting, people with disabilities in the ACT.  My Choice My Support has been formed out of a need identified by Community Connections service users, following the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

My Choice My Support employs support staff on behalf of people with disabilities or their families. This service is intended to provide the kind of flexibility, control and improved relationships that  people enjoy when they directly employ their own staff, but takes away much of the administration workload that accompanies such arrangements.

THE ROLE

The Executive Committee is responsible for the oversight and strategic direction of MCMS. Currently, MCMS are looking for a member with expertise in accounting and finance, business development and/or risk.

As a member of the MCMS Executive Committee, you will be required to commit 3 hours of your time per month (voluntary position). The responsibilities within this role encompass;

Overview of the Financial Reports prepared before the Board Meetings

Reading Committee papers

Attending Committee Meetings

More specific commitment requirements will be discussed with shortlisted candidates. Chosen candidates are expected to stay on the Board for at least one term (2 years).

ABOUT YOU

You will be a driven and committed individual whose values and vision align with those of MCMS. In particular, the Executive Committee is seeking the following skills – note that applicants are not expected to have each of these although more than one would be an advantage:

Qualifications in finance (CA or CPA certified accountant)

Ability to analyse and discuss issues of strategy, policy and organisational process

Previous board/governance experience

The ability to prepare for, and actively participate in, the discussions and deliberations of the Board and of at least one committee (Finance and Risk, Governance or Business Development & Marketing)

Budgeting and planning skills

High level communication skills
