About the role

Preamble

The Sunshine Coast Environment Council Inc (SCEC) is the peak environmental advocacy body for the Sunshine Coast region.

The vision of the organisation is: ‘An ecologically sustainable world achieved through individual and community stewardship of the natural environment at local, regional and global levels’.

The mission of the organisation is: ‘Through leadership, education and environmental activism, to encourage Sunshine Coast individuals and communities to support and participate in working towards the goal of environmental sustainability’.

World Environment Day Festival

World Environment Day Festival has run on the Sunshine Coast for 39 years, on the first Sunday in June, and is part of the United Nations World Environment Day held on the 5th of June each year.  The 2020 event will be held on Sunday the 7th of June.

World Environment Day Festival aims to promote a greater awareness of the environment, and the current environmental challenges, to the general population. It also aims to increase sound environmental practices in the community and a greater engagement with local environmental groups and issues.

This is achieved by bringing thousands of people together in a supportive, non-confrontational setting, with great entertainment, fantastic food, representatives of local community groups, and environmentally responsible businesses. As a result of the WED Festival, our visitors, as part of their great family day out, will leave with a new or improved awareness of environmental issues, information about how they can make a personal difference, and contacts with community organisations they are interested in.

The Sunshine Coast Environment Council is the peak environmental advocacy organisation on the Sunshine Coast, and has been protecting the Sunshine Coast environment for 40 years. We have organised the WED Festival since its inception. We advocate for better environmental policy, support local groups on campaigns to protect our natural landscape and marine environments, and encourage action on climate change through education and community engagement. With over 50 member groups, we strive to make a real difference on the Sunshine Coast.

The Role

The Site Manager is responsible for the overall management of the site and the logistics associated with the festival infrastructure. The Site Manager is expected to work in line with the Sunshine Coast Environment Council’s strong environmental and social ethos. SCEC and WED Festival believe in treating festival participants, volunteers, staff and the environment in a respectful manner.

 Position Description:

The site manager is required on site to facilitate full bump in and pack down. This begins on Saturday and concludes Sunday night. Site marking and underground utility detection require the site manager to be on site at various times in the days leading up to the Festival.
