About the role

The MAV Finance Committee seeks a suitably qualified independent financially skilled member.

The Mathematical Association of Victoria (MAV) through its programs and services promotes the importance of mathematics to society.

Our Association has over 1450 members from all sectors of education including individuals, schools, universities and other institutions, providing membership benefits to a growing community in excess of 13500 mathematics educators. MAV has been an active not-for-profit professional Association for more than 100 years. MAV supports its members by working with experts including leading education academics and researchers, education consultants, exemplary classroom teachers, the Victorian Department of Education, The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA), and various industry partners to provide services in the interests of members and the wider community.

This highly respected, proactive professional association fosters the promotion of mathematics education.

MAV is an Affiliate of the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers (AAMT).

Mission Statement: MAV provides a voice, leadership and professional support for mathematical education.

The Association was established in 1906, incorporated in 1971 and is governed by an elected Board, and employs a staff of nine people to run its operations in Brunswick. MAV has  a Finance Committee to help maintain strong overall financial management. Working with the CEO, the Committee will review and advise the Board on the financial management and financial sustainability of the Association. It will make recommendations on such things as accounting systems and process, budgeting, forecasting, investments and various other related areas.

The Committee is seeking a person who can join the committee with financial expertise as per the following selection criteria. –

A suitably qualified independent person, appointed for their specialist skills, expertise or knowledge, and ideally a non-member with no personal connection to the Association Board.

Preferably with accounting skills or experience. This a is voluntary position and will not be paid, meeting will be mix of virtual and face-to-face.
