About the Role
Fishcare Victoria’s goal is to provide educational services to the broader community that
foster responsible and sustainable fishing practices and promote participation in recreational fishing.
It is a volunteer based not-for-profit organisation that delivers community education services to schools, community groups, disability sector, attends family fishing events and supports other environmental organisations’ projects. Fishcare works with the Victoria Fisheries Authority (VFA), reports to this agency and currently applies for grants through the Recreational Fishing Licence (RFL) trust. Federal Government funding (Natural Heritage Trust) has supported the program in the past.
Fishcare has been operation in Victoria since 1995 when it was established as a pilot
program in East Gippsland by the then Department of Natural Resources and Environment. Since then it has grown and now operates in five regions mostly along the Victorian coast in the south west (Warrnambool), Central Highlands (Ballarat), Melbourne, Mornington- Western Port and East Gippsland. Fishcare Victoria was incorporated in 2010 to provide governance support to the regional groups. It has Deductible Gift Recipient status and is a registered Environmental Organisation.
