About the role

We are looking for Foster Carers to help us to care for a puppy or adult Seeing Eye Dog!

Short term Carers:
• Required to collect and return the dog to/from Seeing Eye Dogs headquarters in Kensington, or live within the Melbourne metro area.
• Ideal carers are those that work from home or are able to take the dog out and about with them, as our dogs must not be left unsupervised for more than 3-5 hours (depending on age and stage of training).
• No prior dog skills are required, you will be provided with training and all dog food and equipment
• Our pups and dogs may require short term care whilst their full time puppy carer or client is away, or for medical or training reasons.
• Carers must be able to adhere strictly to the individual guidelines for each dog in regards to what they are and are not allowed to do, which depends on their stage and progress in training.

Long Term Foster Carers
• Care for a puppy or adult Seeing Eye Dog in training for periods of more than one month
• Ideal carers are those that work from home or are able to take the dog out and about with them, as our dogs must not be left unsupervised for more than 3-5 hours (depending on age and stage of training).
• No prior dog skills are required, you will be provided with training and all dog food and equipment.
• Our pups and dogs may require long term care whilst their full time puppy carer or client is away, or for medical or training reasons.
• Carers must be able to adhere strictly to the individual guidelines for each dog in regards to what they are and are not allowed to do, which depends on their stage and progress in training.

Training Dog Foster Carers
• Care for an adult Seeing Eye Dog whilst it undergoes training
• Training dog foster carers must be able to bring the dog to ‘school’ at the Seeing Eye Dogs headquarters in Kensington daily, Monday to Friday. School starts around 8am and finishes at 3pm.
• No prior dog skills are required, you will be provided with training and all dog food and equipment.
• Carers must be able to adhere strictly to the individual guidelines for each dog in regards to what they are and are not allowed to do, which depends on their stage and progress in training.

Please note that you will need to complete a nation police check, free of charge.
